Early in every year, just as the Christmas hangovers are clearing there is the joyful experience of filling in appraisal forms. While it is not always the case these often seem to be extracted straight from the world of Dilbert. After a particular dispiriting conversation with a friend I came up with a solution to this nightmare: the appraisal sentence generator.

When I wrote this I’d forgotten about the wonderful SCIgen which is a massively more ambitious and successful take on the same idea applied to academic papers.
